Do You Know These Nutritional Misconceptions in the Market?

Do you agree that We Are What We Eat?

Indeed, food is not just for fun, but food is fuel.

With health consciousness intensified one would not expect the rate of diseases to increase as shown by the statistics in our other section. A lot of people would be puzzled and definitely ask, “What is happening even with our medical advancement and technology? What is wrong?”

Do you have the right knowledge to choose the correct fuel for your body? We are here to share some of the common Nutritional Misconceptions.

Here are some of the few examples.

1) Do Collagen Supplements Work?

Do you know what happens when our body is collagen deficient?

Do you know collagen deficiency will cause many health problems, be it externally and internally?

Considering the importance of collagen for our well-being, it is selling like hot cake in the market now. However, many people choose to supplement the body with collagen supplements when the face starts to show signs of aging.

Collagen supplements are supposed to work on the basis of ‘yi xing bu xing’ (in Chinese), which means by replacement of part of the animal as the same part of the human body. Most common would be animal placenta.

There are also direct synthetic collagen replacement such as the collagen injections to the affected areas. Do you think that synthetic collagen is just as operational as the naturally occurring collagen created by our body? Scientists have never successfully created an orange from scratch in a laboratory! Likewise, neither can scientists create synthetic nutrients that exactly duplicate or replace naturally occurring collagen we need in our body.

Well, given a choice, do you prefer self-produced collagen or replacement collagen?

2) Do Vitamins Help or Harm?

Vitamins are organic substances that are needed by the human body for bodily functions and good health. They are required in very small amounts but they play an important role in the growth, metabolism and development of the human body.

We usually assume that due to our hectic lives, we are not able to eat a nutritional balanced diet and therefore rely on convenient vitamin supplements. By doing this, we think that we’ve made up for what we have a dearth in. We feel that even if the pills do not help us, at least they will at-least not cause detriment to us.

See the above journal from American Medical Association.

However, excess intake of the following vitamins may have harmful side effects:
Vitamin A: osteoporosis, fatigue and liver damage.
Vitamin B: numbness and depression.
Vitamin C: heart and liver diseases.
Vitamin D: kidney diseases.
Vitamin E: lowered immune function and fatigue.

3) Does Milk Help to Prevent Osteoporosis?

Do you know of anyone that drinks cow’s milk on a daily basis with the belief that this protein and calcium-rich drink is essential to support ideal overall health and bone health?

Many consider cow’s milk as the best source of calcium as calcium helps us prevent osteoporosis. If that is the case, why is it that osteoporosis flourishes even in western countries with large consumption of cow’s milk, meat and dairy products?
